Basics Guide

Overview
The goal in Pocket Frogs is to have fun while breeding, collecting and trading frogs. This can be done by earning coins, leveling up, and completing challenges. As of update 1.0.6, you can race frogs as well.

New players start the game with a couple of frogs in their habitat and 1000 coins. These frogs can be bred to create new frogs, or taken to the pond to meet other frogs to mate with and increase the gene pool. New frogs can also be purchased from the FrogMart, traded with friends, or found in presents. Each frog has four statistics: Rarity Level, Maturity Meter, Happiness Meter and Value.

Growing Up
Breeding is achieved by mating two frogs in the breed menu. After breeding, an egg appears in the Nursery where it matures into an adult. In the egg stage the player must wait until the egg hatches before finding out what species has been made. This egg stage can also be accelerated to an adult frog with the use of potions.

Once the egg has hatched, the player can wait until the frog matures into an adult for breeding, use a potion to instantly finish the process, or feed it flies in the pond mini game to accelerate aging.

The Pond Mini-Game
The pond mini-game involves hopping from one lily-pad to another, while trying to eat flies in mid-air. Eating enough flies will tame the frog, allowing it to be bred, catalogued, traded, and raced. If the frog is not yet mature, taking it to the pond mini-game will shorten its maturation time by 1-7 minutes per fly eaten.

The pond mini game is also where you will discover rare breeds unavailable in the FrogMart and where you might find presents containing special or decorative items. Most decorative items for the frog habitats can also be bought from the Supply Shop, However, some are only available as Presents.

Racing Frogs
Frogs can be raced against a few other computer frogs for a chance to win money and frogs. Each frog’s speed and stamina stats help determine whether the frog will win successfully against his competing frogs, and dragonflies zoom across the course and provide random assistance. Placing in first allows the player to choose a frog as a reward, or to accept a coin payoff. Second and third pay off coin, and fourth and fifth places do not recieve any prizes.

Connecting To Other Players
To appeal to competitive gamers, Pocket frogs uses the Plus+ social network for leaderboards and awards, however, it does not require an internet connection to play or complete the game.

The game also features \”In App Purchases\” (IAPs), accessed through the Pro Shop menu, where in game items such as potions and stamps can be bought to speed up gameplay. No purchase is necessary to play, enjoy or finish the game.

Value
Value is the number of coins that a frog can currently be sold for. This value is calculated by 80% Maturity and 20% Happiness.

Maximum value is determined primarily by the rarity of the frog pattern, with some variation due to color and pattern color.

Maximum value determines the amount of XP that is earned when a frog is tamed. XP earned is calculated at 10% of maximum value (rounded down to the nearest XP), i.e. if a frog is worth 726 coins at maximum value then the player will earn 72 XP upon taming the frog.

The maximum value of a frog contributes to the cost of breeding with that frog (half of the average of the maximum values of the two parent frogs).

Levels
XP earned from breeding a frog is the same as the amount it costs to breed it, and is earned as soon as the egg is placed in the nursery. (For example, a frog that costs 1,677 coins to breed will reward 1,677 XP.)

XP earned by taming a frog is calculated by the maximum price the specific frog can be sold for divided by 10 and rounded down to the nearest whole number. (example: Max price is 125, 125/10 = 12.5 so the XP earned by taming is 12)

Eating the biggest flies while playing in the pond mini game will give you 10 XP.

Cheats & Tips

Money Cheat
(Remember that when you use a cheat that there is a chance that it can mess up your game.)

This cheat will help you make money very fast, it will not deplete your potions, and will not interfere thing you iPod settings.

Sell or remove frogs from your nursery. Breed two rare frogs (so the offspring is rare) eight times. In the iPhone settings, move your time forward (only far enough so the frogs are mature). On pocket frogs, sell each rare frog at a profit of AT LEAST $200 PER FROG! Set your time back to the real time. You will keep the profit from the frogs, and new frogs will stay in your Froggydex.

Racing Glitch
If you win race, choose the \”take frog\” option. Then touch two (or more if you can) frogs as the game will give you whatever ones you touch. If you want to go farther than this to get more $, fast foreward time. Put all the extra frogs in a habitat and sell them. Then switch the time back to normal. You will still have the cash, but nothing else is affected.

Know The Frog Before It Hatches
If you want to know what frog you will get before it hatches just go to your froggydex, the new frog type will already be in the parent frogs sections. The new type that shows will be what’s in your egg.

If there isn’t a new frog in there, then you didn’t breed a new type of frog.

Eat Flies
After a frog hatches you need to take him to the pond to eat flies. The more flies the frog eats the less time it will take for it to mature. (each fly takes away about one minute) Also the bigger the fly, the more the time is reduced.

Breed 1 & 7
If you breed a level 1 frog with a level 7 frog, it will give you 300+ xp each time.

Baby Frog Color
A baby frog will not contain a color or pattern that does not appear on at least one of the parents. Although sometimes breeding two frogs with different base colors together there is a small chance that the new frog will have a glass body.

Easy Money
A fast way to make extra money is to keep two copies of your most expensive frog and then breed them. If you want to even more money, keep a habitat with lots of happiness items and move the frogs into there for a while before you sell. While they’re sitting in the habitat getting happier.

Level Fast
By breeding, taming frogs and completing Award Challenges you can earn xp. By completing these you will level up very fast.

Predict Egg Frog
If you look at the value and level of the egg you can almost predict what kind of frog is going to hatch from the egg.

Breeding Cost
The cost on breeding will determine the amount of xp you get when you start breeding. For example, you will get 31 xp if it costs 31 coins to breed. You can use this to level up fast in the game.
